Jarett Coons of Sierra Mountain Trout Guides reports on February 13th, 2026
Lower Owens
Flow- 100 CFS
Water Temp 48*F +-
Weather: it was t-shirt weather this week, with a little pressure change that brought haze in the valley and what appeared to be snow in the mountains. Things will cool down next week with storms and night time lows getting into the high 20’s.
It's a fun time on the Owens right now as we begin the transition into spring. The green rock worms are everywhere and the skwalas are beginning to show up. The BWO hatch gets going midday. Start looking for risers about noon and be ready to search for them. Sometimes this hatch goes off everywhere, sometimes it is isolated to just a few holes. The water temp is still a little cold, so cover water thoroughly and watch for subtle takes. Streamers, nymphs and dries are all producing fish, so pick your poison and get at them!
Guide Tip: It is a good idea to carry 2 rods and waiting to see risers before fishing a dry will be more productive!
