Deschutes & Owyhee Fishing Report

Deschutes RiverSep 1, 20171 min read

Deschutes River Anglers report on 8.28.2017

Owyhee

With each passing week the fishing seems to be getting better and better on the Owyhee. The closer we get to September the more the browns are hunting down the hoppers and beetles.

By no means are all of the fish locked in on the big bugs, but enough are to keep things exciting. The days they aren’t eating the big bugs, we are still getting good mid-day PMD hatches. The hatch usually shows up around 2:00 or 2:30pm. If you are lucky enough to have a thunderstorm pass through (like we did last Thursday) get ready cause that’s when the fish really go bonkers.

Trout

The trout fishing on the Deschutes has been very consistent for the past several weeks. Nymphing is the best bet to catch fish throughout most of the day. If it’s dry fly fishing you are after, make sure you are on the river the last hour or two of the day. That’s when things really light up.

Steelhead

For a river that isn’t suppose to have many steelhead in it this summer, there are quite a few of them being caught right now. Even though the days are still hot the nights are cooling down and the water temps are on the drop.  Which is bringing in steady numbers of fish.

If you are wanting to hit the river with us this season give us a shout soon, we have just a few openings left.
