California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Captain Bryce Tedford reports on May 24th, 2026

Delta Fishing Report:

A change of season is coming to the Delta! Spring striper season is winding down & water temperatures are winding up, that means it’s time to change from striped bass to largemouth & smallmouth bass fishing. Through the summer months I turn my attention to long 1/2 days (5hrs) of chasing topwater bass. These trips are a great way to introduce newer fly fishers into the sport or seasoned veteran who want some fun.

For smallmouth we use 4-5wt rods with floating lines, sz 6 poppers & work rock walls. These smallmouth trips are great for getting someone into the sport of fly fishing. The fish are generally smaller but fight hard for their size & are super fun on lighter tackle. Also, we can stop for coffee &/or ice cream part way through the trip which is crowd favorite.

For largemouth we use 8 wt rods with floating lines, 2/0 poppers & work heavy cover along rock walls, reeds, weeds, etc. These largemouth trips are more challenging to cast, hook & land the fish but the quarry is generally bigger than smallmouth. After the trip the guide can recommend some great lunch spots to  finish out a great day.

Gear, snacks, water & sodas are all included. Just show up with a fishing license & a fun attitude!

Still have some prime dates available if you want to get out this summer!

Open Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass 1/2 Day Trips:

June: 18, 19

July: 16, 21, 29

Aug: 3, 7, 14, 20, 28
