This spool is in mint condition. This spool does not look like it was ever fished, or even had line put on it, and comes with the original box. There are no visible marks anywhere on the reel, and the internals of it look very good. This reel gets an A+ rating.

The Hardy St. George is a legendary fly reel with a rich heritage dating back to its original introduction in 1911. Designed and produced in Alnwick, England, the St. George was one of Hardy's earliest large-arbor reels and quickly earned a reputation for its elegant engineering, smooth performance, and timeless style.

Built from high-grade aluminum, the St. George features a classic full-frame design, ventilated spool, and a check (click-and-pawl) drag system that delivers a silky, controlled resistance—ideal for protecting light tippets during long runs. Early versions came with a distinctive 3-screw drum latch and often a 3-screw or 2-screw line guard, which collectors prize today.

Available in several sizes (2¾", 3", and 3⅜" being the most common), the St. George was designed to handle anything from light trout fishing to heavier duty applications with larger lines. The 3⅜" model is particularly beloved for trout and grayling fishing, pairing beautifully with both classic bamboo and modern rods.

With its smooth retrieve, crisp Hardy check, and durable construction, the Hardy St. George remains one of the most iconic and collectible reels in the history of fly fishing. It’s not just a reel—it’s a piece of angling tradition.
