Used Hardy J.L.H Fly Reel 2/3/4wt No 944 + Spool
That is a fantastic piece of classic fly fishing gear you have there. The Hardy JLH Ultralite series, named after James Laughton Hardy, was introduced in 1991 and holds a special place in angling history. It was one of Hardy's first reels machined from high-grade bar-stock alloy rather than cast aluminum, making it incredibly strong, lightweight, and perfect for modern rods.
Reel Specifications & Design
The number sequence indicates this is the #2/3/4 trout model, which is the smallest and most sought-after size in the original lineup. It has a diameter of roughly 2.8 inches and weighs just around 3.4 oz empty. It utilizes a traditional, buttery-smooth click-and-pawl drag system with an exposed rim for manual palming. For versatility, it features a reversible nickel-silver line guard, allowing you to easily switch it between Right-Hand Wind and Left-Hand Wind by flipping the pawls and reversing the guard. Early production runs were individually stamped with serial numbers on the backplate, and having No. 944 places your reel firmly in the highly desirable early production era from Alnwick, England.
This reel is in B condition and does not come with a case.
