Bull Elk is a medium stiff, hollow hair and among the most basic of tying materials. Most often, bull elk is used for down wing stonefly and hopper patterns. Think the Stimulator. Elk is useful for bass and steelhead dry flies too.
Elk Back Strap offers all these qualities, but with longer fibers for big patterns. Think salmonflies and big steelhead skaters, along with bass patterns.
