Here in Nor Cal, we have the earliest skwala hatch in the west--at least that we're aware of. The Lower Yuba River is an excellent winter trout fishery with some good dry fly opportunities. Skwala stones can hatch anytime from January through March, given the right conditions. It's pretty darn cool to be watching rainbows slurp your dry fly when the rest of the country is in a deep freeze. California is cool.
