Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dec 25, 20141 min read

Hogan Brown, Hogan Brown Fly

Lower Yuba River  - spent the last 3 days guiding the Lower Yuba and fishing was fair to good. The river is clearing everyday and when I left yesterday had about 1’ of visibility. We got good numbers of 14-18" trout on all 3 days with some bigger fish mixed in and lost. There some winter steelhead in the river as I saw a few role, jump, and throw our hooks. Nymphing with eggs and rubber legs was the most effective but when we did get out of the boat and swing the spey/switch rods we did hook fish swinging flies in most run…so take your pick how you want to fish. With some color to the water it is a great time to swing flies. Skwala nymphs are making their way to the banks and the hatch should be happening in a few weeks I imagine.

With the recent garage of storms fishing on the Butte Creek and the Lower Yuba are really shopping up for a great late December and January.
