Upper Sac & McCloud Fly Fishing Report

Riley Renick of Wild Waters Fly Fishing reports on June 18th, 2026

Upper Sacramento River

Fishing on the Upper Sac has been excellent this season. Flows have dropped to around 350 cfs, and we’re beginning the transition into summer fishing patterns. Dry fly action has been particularly strong, with golden stoneflies now out in force throughout much of the river.

As temperatures rise, expect the most productive fishing to shift toward the early morning and late evening hours. Dry fly and dry-dropper setups are producing well, while anglers fishing through the middle of the day will generally find the best success nymphing deeper runs, pockets, and seams.

McCloud River

The McCloud is having an outstanding year. Water conditions have transitioned from exceptionally clear to a more typical color, which has helped improve fishing throughout the system. Dry fly fishing has been a highlight so far, and stoneflies are active across much of the river.

Like the Upper Sac, the McCloud is settling into its summer rhythm. A few larger brown trout have begun to make appearances, though the river’s biggest fish typically become much more visible and aggressive as we move into late summer and early fall. Expect good dry fly opportunities, especially during the cooler morning and evening periods, with nymphing remaining productive during the heat of the day.

Booking Availability

We have just a couple available days in June, but we still have limited availability remaining for July. To reserve your day on the water, contact Wild Waters Fly Fishing at info@wildwatersflyfishing.com.
