Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverFeb 2, 20171 min read

Matt Koles reports on 2.2.17

Sunny and mild, cold overnight lows.

High pressure has set in. Clear cold nights, warm afternoons on the Truckee River. One more storm to roll in Friday. After that it’s looking like high pressure will set in for the first week or two of Feb. Expect cold nights and warmer afternoons.

The cold overnight lows have dropped the water temps a bit and the trouts seem to really want the frog water and warmer tail outs of runs. Flows are just at 400 cfs here in the Hirsch, and bit higher down below. Very good flows- normal winter-time flows. So looks like we will have a false spring like we get every winter. Dry out for a few weeks and I imagine we will have the storm train roll in once again. March is historically a big snow month for Tahoe.

Pyramid Lake will remain closed until April 1st. Bummer for a lot of people, but hey, that’s the way it is.

You will still not get out to the Little Truckee River. Way too much snow to drive in.
