Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverMar 2, 20171 min read

Matt Koles reports on 2.27.17

Clear and cold, but warming this week into next.  Finally a little break.

Flows are still high on the Truckee River. They are dropping, and are not as high as they have been the last month.

1,500 cfs is still big here in Hirschdale, but not as bad as 2,000. Way more manageable if you stay above the inlets of Boca, and Prosser Ck. I imagine flows will continue to slowly drop through the week. Don’t look for normal flows anytime soon, get used to fishing the higher water. Just the way it’s going to be this year. Clarity ain’t bad, kinda the normal off color Truckee River color. We should have cold nights and warm afternoons.

Fishing is actually pretty good right now even in the higher water

So, good shit here for a while. We finally get to enjoy a little sunshine. There’s still a lot of winter left, and I’m sure we will still see a lot of snow as that’s the pattern we’re in right now. At least the real cold months are behind us. More sunlight during the day, and we should get some days in the 50’s and 60’s this month in Tahoe.
