Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
Matt Gilligan Koles Reports on 9.21.2017
Pretty good to very good fishing on the Truckee River.
Numbers wise we’re doing good with the occasional bigger fishing coming around.
The colder weather seems to have pushed a lot of fish in close/tight, so the summer really fast water is becoming less important. I’ve been cleaning house with the dry dropper combos. Streamer fishing is picking up and you can start moving some big fish around on those things this time of year. This week it’s supposed to be cloudy and cool, streamer time for sure. Of course, we always get fish nymphing, but you can fish a lot of different styles this time of year and some will work better than others.
We are going into about the best couple months to fish the Truckee River, especially on the California side. It will get cold around T-giving. The Nevada side should fish good right through winter. I’ve spent some time down there and we’re turning some big fish up in my old familiar places. Not as good as pre-drought, but not too bad either. Flows are nice and big still-perfect on both sides of the river.
I have spots open for the Tight Line Nymph Clinic on October 7th. Look for some streamer clinics popping up shortly.
