Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverOct 12, 20171 min read

Matt “Gilligan” Koles reports on 10.11.17

Good solid fishing on the Truckee River.

Cold nights, mild days. Should cool more this week with high’s only in the 50’s. Nights will be in the upper teens.

So, the best fishing should be mid-day at least on the Cali side. The Nevada side stays warmer, but both sides have been fishing well, all around, any time. Flows are still above average for October and should remain good into winter. 388 cfs here in the Hirsch this morning.

I’ve been guiding on both sides of the river. The Nevada side is fishing well again through The Nature Conservancy. We had the best day down there the other day since about ’14. Takes a river time to recover. 3 years seems about right, and it should continue to get better and better. Small may’s, stones, worms, crays, should all be in your nymphing box. Streamer bite should get better, but it’s just been so damn sunny lately. Be nice if we could get some nice cloudy days and get all the fish in the river to chase, it happens.

Good ole Indian Summer days.
