Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Sep 18, 20141 min read

Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service

Well, we sill have some water in the Truckee River in the greater Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. Some spots are better than others and some spots have little, if no water at all. Everyone is hoping for some rain and soon. If you can find some deeper water/ buckets you will find fish. Fish have been keying in on beats mayflies, nymphs and dries, yes, I said dries. The shallow water has some fish looking up, a silver lining in our low water fall we’re having. Dry dropper rigs have been allowing my folks to get a little further away from the fish, stealth and good casts have been rewarded.

Pyramid Lake opens back up on October 1st. Last fall was banner at Pyramid and we’ll see what this fall brings. Them big Cutties like eating Tui Chubs out there in the fall, that’s a real kick in the pants. I imagine it will be slow out there until some cooler weather pushes them into fly rod reach. Kind of really excited to guide and fish Pyramid this year.
