Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverMar 12, 20151 min read

Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service

I think unofficially spring has sprung about everywhere in Northern Ca. Warm days, cold nights, no rain or snow, pretty much sums things up weather wise. My advice is to take advantage while you can. Right now on the Truckee River it is good. With this warm weather we will see the bugs real soon. skwalas, march browns, and blue wing olives. We can have some pretty good dry fly fishing up here early spring when the water and the weather is like this. Of course nymphing with the above mentioned patterns will do the trick. Streamers will work, but you may have to work hard if its bright sun. Dry droppers are fun to fish this time of year when the fish start looking up like they do. Flows are about 300 cfs below Boca, little lower through Reno and higher again through the Nature Conservancy east of Reno.
