Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento RiverAug 1, 20181 min read

Ryan Johnston reports on 7.31.18

The striper fishing on the Sacramento River has been really solid the last few weeks. We have been catching about 25+ stripers a day from shakers to about 4 lbs. It seems like once a day you have a legitimate shot at a 7-8lber. With the cooler water temps this year it has been really hard to find the big fish.

The good news is that the last couple of weeks the bigger fish have started to move around. Its only a matter of time before someone sticks a true pig as we are seeing 20+lb fish every couple of days.

With the cooler water the mid day bite has been the best. No reason to get out there early as these fish aren’t ready to eat till about 11am. For anyone interested in giving the Sacramento River a try for stripers then I still have a handful of prime time dates open in August. Openings below:

August 9, 22, 24, 30, September 1
