Rogue River Fly Fishing Report
Jim Andras Reports on 8.27.2015
Overall, the upper Rogue has fished well for August as we consistently hook 2 to 3 steelhead most days with some bigger numbers mixed in on occasion. I expect more fish to continue pushing into the upper river as the peak of our summer run usually falls mid/late October. As always, our July and August fish are really bright and take an impressive initial run away followed by an equally impressive run back at the boat or wading angler. Fly fishing only regulations (no split shot or pegged beads) take effect September 1 and continue through October.
Smoke continues to linger in the air as fire crews now battle a large wildfire near Crater Lake. As of late, most days the DEQ lists the air quality from Ashland to Shady Cove as moderate. However, a wind shift can change things very quickly. Thankfully even with smoke in the valley we have stayed away from reaching unhealthy or hazardous levels. Anyone with sensitive lungs/asthma should check the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) website for updated information before heading up.
Our forecast calls for a dramatic cool down this weekend and lasting through at least the middle of next week. Predicted highs range from the upper 70’s to the mid 80’s with a decent chance for rain on Friday!!
Anyone looking for a last minute trip I am open over the weekend through the end of the month and September 1-3, 7-9, 12-15.
Thank you for reading and enjoy a few recent photos.
