Lower Sacramento River Striper Fishing

Lower Sacramento RiverJul 7, 20161 min read

Hogan Brown Reports on 7.7.2016

Fishing has been good. We have been catching good number of keeper size fish and getting a few shots at double digit fish a day on most days. Water temps are cooler then normal so knowing what areas warm first throughout the day is key. There has even been some decent top water fishing during the morning along shaded banks and and if the fish won’t hit a surface fly they are more then willing to chase a fly fished on an intermediate line right under the surface. Weed growth is slow with the cooler water temps so most days we are still fishing heavy lines but as the weeds come up more and more of our fishing is down with type 5, 3, and Intermediate lines. July-September is where we see some of our biggest fish and the true trophy fish of the river are starting to show.
