Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento RiverNov 28, 20181 min read

Anthony Carruesco reports on 11.26.18

We’re finally getting some rain in Northern CA. We’re expecting over 2 inches by the end of the day Friday. This will bring the rivers up, add some color and move steelhead up from the lower reaches in the Klamath and Trinity. We’re looking forward to some very good steelhead fishing opportunities by the weekend and next week.

We’ve had a year to remember on the Lower Sac. She has held strong and given us extremely consistent fishing through the changing seasons. The small bug bite has been exceptional over the past few weeks as many of the fish has transitioned from the egg-eating glut they were in during the Salmon spawn of October. There is going to be a second push of Kings that’ll be spawning by early December. Our “Winter Egg Bite” should be good again in the next few weeks. Until then, get used to the quick grabs and little bugs from the big trout of the Sac. Winter is BIG TROUT TIME.
