Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 5.31.18

Lower Sacramento

Shad fishing has been fair. A bit hit and miss as schools are concentrated and there is not just big pods of fish everywhere. If you are on a big pod fishing is great if not it is mediocre and finding the big pods can be challenging as they spread throughout the system.

That said most evenings we have been getting into some good shad fishing and then heading into the backwater for some topwater bass fishing. Topwater bass fishing has been good as the fish are actively looking up and fishing frog patterns has been getting some good boils.

Lower Sac Striper

fishing is picking up as the shad thin out. Next week I start guiding exclusively for stripers for the most part through November. The season is looking to be another great year and if you have not experienced the resident striper fishing on the Lower Sac throughout the summer you are really missing out.

I still have a few dates available and if you do not see one that works I book 3 other fully licensed coast guard captains that may have your date open.

Lower Yuba River Trout fishing should be good this coming month. I have not been out on the water lately but I always like to sneak a few days of trout fishing on the Lower Yuba during the month of June as the caddis, PEDs, golden stones, and little yellow stones get going.

Open Dates:

June 6, 12, 14,

July 5, 6, 9, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 27, 30,

August 1, 2, 9, 11, 25,
