Lake Oroville Bass Fly Fishing Report
Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 3.18.19
Been spending most of my time on Lake Oroville fishing for spotted bass. Water temps are up a bit and the sunshine is out. The spots are spread out between winter mode, pre-spawn, and even a few spawning fish I think. Fishing the float n fly is catching fish and we have been getting on some stripped fly bites midday in the coves where water temps are up. As the water clears in certain areas we should start seeing some topwater and stripped fly bites with more consistency. Most fish are coming on small minnow patterns either stripped or fished under the float an fly.
Striper fishing on the Lower Sac is going to pick up this week as releases out of Keswick drop to 14,500 by March 20. Migratory fishing should really get going out of the Colusa area and the resident bite should pick up as well. As long as flows and clarity stay reasonable fishing for both resident and migratory fish should start picking up and summer striper fishing is only a few months away
