Lake Davis Fly Fishing Report
Jon Baiocchi / Baiocchi’s Troutfitters Reports on 7.7.2016
Lake Davis - The end of the spring and summer season is upon Lake Davis. Water temps are 65 to 71 degrees. Be careful playing fish for long periods when the water is really warm, they may not make it when released, so be prepared to keep your catch. The damselfly hatch is still going strong but is in the midst of waning. Resident rainbows are wising up to artificials, and refusals are likely. My best advice it to seek out pods of fish that have not been picked on, this will require you to go to areas that are not popular, or off the beaten path. Another tactic is to present larger streamers in fiery brown, black, and cinnamon with a fast strip. The Hex hatch is also on fire, but not many fish are keyed in on them due to being stuffed with damselfly nymphs and chironomids. The occasional player can be caught, and using the emerger pattern is your best bet. My guests and I have had an awesome season so far with numerous three to four pound fish, 6 at five pounds, and 1 six pounder. The size of the rainbows this year has been insane! I’m done with the lake until the water temps cool down in September. I have dates available for the fall if your interested. 530.228.0487
