Crowley Lake Fly Fishing Report

Heads up!! Regs have changed on Crowley Lake!! Restricted Season (August 1 – November 15) Gear: Only artificial flies, lures, or jigs may be used. No live or scented bait.
Bag Limit: 2 trout per day, with a minimum size of 18 inches total length. Perch: You may keep up to 25 Sacramento perch per day, though no scented
bait can be used for them either. You can no longer fish 2 rods, even with a valid stamp!

This is the best time of year to be on Crowley!! Fall is in the air, it is cooling off, fish are
shallow and the bite is on!! Fishing is excellent in 7-11’ right now and recent stockings
by CDFW has bolstered rainbows and cutthroat populations. Take extra care with
these stockers, they seem to be having a little trouble reviving, keep them in the water
as much as possible!

The North Arm is rocking right now around Greenbanks. The channel near shore has
been hot and it is an easy kick if you have a float tube. Last year, Layton was red hot at
this time but we haven’t seen that materialize yet. McGee was holding a few fish near
the inlet as well. Don’t be afraid to look around, there are other places to find fish away
from the group!

I wish I could tell you these fish are eating something different, but nope, it has been all
about the midge. We have not had nearly as many fish on the perch this year, whether
under the bobber or on the strip, they have not gotten crazy for it. Most recent stomach
samples have been dominated by chironomids, so that is what we will fish!!
Crowley is stillwater flyfishing at its finest!!
