Lake Almanor Fly Fishing Report

Lake Almanor is fishing very well right now. We are netting between 15 and 20 fish per outing (mostly Rainbows). I have limited my trips to early morning half days around inlets and springs, due to elevated water temperatures after 11am.

Balanced Leeches (Tan and Olive #8) and Chironomids (Black and Red #12) are still the top producers under an indicator. We have had some success stripping pond smelt (#8) on the surface with a floating line, however, this is before the sun hits the water. After the sun is on the water we are starting to find fish, slow stripping an intermediate line with pond smelt or Damselflies (Olive and Tan #10). Fish will retreat to deeper water as the surface temperatures rise around the Lake.
