Ca Delta Fly Fishing Report

DeltaSep 1, 20161 min read

Steve Santucci Reports on 9.1.2016

Delta Striper fishing is starting to excel with more and larger Stripers entering the system.  It looks like the wind will start to cooperate with stable temperatures from the Coast to our Delta.  Small to medium size Clouser’s  are working well for subsurface fish.  Crease, Gurglar’s and Pole Dancer are working  for the early mourning and late afternoon top water bite.  It’s time to plan your outings for the Fall Striper run.

You should consider the new Rio Coldwater Series In Touch(no stretch) Outbound T-14 Custom.  It comes  with a 35 foot head and I always  cut mine to 30 feet and install a loop connection.  Rio has a video that shows how to weld a loop  after cutting with heat shrink and a heat gun.  The line  is durable and has low memory.  The “ no stretch”  gives you increased sensitivity for feeling even a nudge on your fly.  This is the line that is used for the majority of your Striper fishing.  Also I would suggest an Type 3 intermediate line.  I use a Rio Specialty Series Outbound Short  Fresh WaterWF/S3.  These two lines will take care of 90% of your fishing.  If your a top water nut you will want to bring a  floater.
