Overview

A living neon torpedo, a fl ash of gold muscle that explodes from the water with the fury of a heavyweight boxer. Welcome to South America’s most electrifying game fish. Landing a golden dorado is a badge of honor, a testament to your skill as a “master of puppets”. These are no sluggish catfish; they fight dirty, thrashing and bulldogging their way to freedom. A missed strike is a heart-stopping spectacle, leaving you breathless and humbled.

Corrientes translates to “Currents” in english. Does this fact not tell you enough about its rivers and legendary fishing culture? Amidst the symphony of nature awaits a worthy opponent. Be prepared, this fish isn’t just a catch, it’s an experience that will leave you forever hooked.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Buenos Aires

Fly from your home airport to Buenos Aires (EZE) and overnight in the city before flying to Corrientes the next morning. Enjoy dinner and take in a bit of this international city on your way to gold country.

Day 2Travel to the lodge

Fly from Buenos Aires to Corrientes (CNQ) where the lodge will pick you up for the drive into the Ysoro Wetland and the Jetu'u Lodge. Anticipation builds.

Days 3-53 full days of fishing

Fish the Ysoro Wetland for three full days of hungry golden dorado. Fishing is done from a flats skiff with two anglers and one guide in each boat. This program offers a split fishing day, from early morning until a noon lunch and siesta followed by an evening session.

Days 6-8Three more full days of fishing in the Ibera Marsh

On the morning of the fourth day of fishing you will transfer to the La Alondra'i Lodge and satellite camps, deep in the Ibera Marsh. Trade the fast action and smaller fish of Jetu'u for possibilities of grande dorado in a true wilderness setting. You'll experience the same stellar food and hospitality as all the Set lodges. All you have to do is make the cast, the rest is handled by the friendly and attentive lodge staff. Set is the only outfitter licensed to operate in 70% of the Ibera Marsh, so you won't see anyone else fishing.

Day 9Final day, depart the lodge and head home

Sadly, it's time to leave the marsh and its golden treasure behind. You will leave Alondra'i Lodge early in the morning, head to the airport in Corrientes and onto Buenos Aires and then your home airport. If you want to stay another night in Buenos Aires on your way home, the friendly staff at Set can arrange that for you.

La Alondra’i, a historic 100-year-old house, lies in Concepcion del Yaguarete Cora, offering a glimpse into Gaucho culture. Restored to its former glory, it features 6 spacious rooms that open to a gallery over a central yard. Two different dining rooms give ambiance for breakfast and dinners. Local artisans and musicians regularly visit the lodge to bring cultural immersion and entertainment.

Of the satellite camps, “Ibera Rugua” is the Base Camp.

Omar’s cabin, Local paisano, true esterero, we are lucky to be friends with and enjoy his hospitality. 2 Cabins for groups up to 8 anglers.

El Disparo is our southernmost camp. 8 Walk in tents, set over elevated wooden platforms offer a unique view of the marsh in comfort.

Yaguareté ava, to the north, is the smallest and most remote of the 3.

The Ibera Marsh is so vast and intricate that after months of scouting and exploring, searching for the best program, fishing and meeting locals, sharing and helping, Set realized that what they were doing was exactly the best experience possible. It was a revelation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gear should I bring to catch golden dorado?

Set includes fishing gear for all dorado trips, however, most anglers prefer to bring their own gear.

At the Jetu'u Lodge the fish are plentiful, but run on the smaller side. 6 & 7 weight rods are the norm, paired with an appropriately sized reel and tropical floating & sinking lines. These fish love to explode on poppers and eat streamers subsurface too. 30-40# wire bit tippets are required for these toothy critters.

The fish at La Alondra'i are larger and anglers prefer a bit larger 7 & 8 weight rods for that fishery.

Flies should be a mix of poppers and streamers. Standard topwater patterns include NYAP, Crease Flies & Gurglers. Baitfish streamers tied with synthetic materials are good--some with bead chain or lead eyes. Everything should be on 2/0-4/0 saltwater or stout streamer hooks. Colors run the gamut, black, orange, red, chartreuse, yellow, purple and combinations thereof. Dorado can be cagey one day and totally reckless the next.

How should I dress for fishing in the marsh?

This is subtropical latitude and air temps are warm to hot. Bring UPF rated sun hoodies and quick-dry UPF pants to match. Lots of sunscreen is critical. An ultralight rain jacket is good to pack as well. Bring two pairs of polarized sunglasses. Sungloves with finger protection are important too. Streamer lines are abrasive and can cut your stripping fingers.

How to I get a fishing license?

Your fishing license is included in your package price. No need to worry, Set will have that part handled before your arrival.

What is the Set gratuity policy?

Throughout your stay, you’ll come to appreciate that a large and dedicated
team makes the Set Fly Fishing experience possible. In line with our team-
focused philosophy, they use a gratuity pool system where your guides receive
the largest share and all staff involved in your experience, from kitchen to
housekeeping and logistics, are also included in the distribution.

Please hand your gratuity envelope to the host or lodge manager on Friday
night or Saturday morning, before check-out. If you prefer not to travel with large amounts of cash, Set can email a payment link for a bank transfer.

While 15% of package price is the standard guideline, tipping is a personal decision and should be based on angler experience and satisfaction.

What's included in the package price?

Set goes all out for their clients and hospitality is paramount. Once you reach the Corrientes airport, everything is included. Transportation from Corrientes to the lodge, 6 days guided fishing, 7 nights lodging, 3 meals made from scratch daily, alcoholic beverages (including Argentinean wines) & soft drinks, fishign license, and all necessary fishing gear.

Note: Many anglers prefer to bring their own fishing gear, and LCO will provide a custom gear list for you.

Not included is travel from your home airport to Correintes, overnight in Buenos Aires & staff gratuities (15% is standard).
