Overview

No Name Lodge sits at the edge of Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge on Puerto Rico's southwest coast. In this place, mangrove lagoons, coral reef flats, and open Caribbean bays converge into one of the most diverse saltwater ecosystems in the Caribbean. Permit, tarpon, snook, mutton snapper, jacks, and bonita all share this water, and your USCG-certified guides know exactly where to find them.

NNL breaks from the traditional lodge framework. There's no rigid schedule, no stuffy dining room, no clipboard checkout at 6 AM. Instead: hot coffee before sunrise, your guide rolling up in a Toyota Tacoma with a Maverick skiff in tow, TurtleBox on the deck, and a day on the water built entirely around what the fish are doing. Evenings are spent in Boquerón — the fishing village turned local nightlife hub — pinchos in hand, chichaito shots optional.

Puerto Rico is U.S. soil. No passport, no customs, direct flights from dozens of domestic hubs. This is as close as it gets to an international flats trip without ever leaving the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weather like and what clothing is recommended?

Temperatures range from the low 70s to mid 90s. Bring quick dry pants and shorts, long-sleeved UPF shirts, a wide-brimmed hat, sun gloves, a light hoody for evenings around the lodge and a light rain shell.

Wet wading is the norm, so bring supportive, sturdy flats boots or zip-up neoprene booties. Don't forget polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and a Buff.

How do I book and what is the cancellation policy?

50% non-refundable deposit due upon booking to lock in dates. Final balance due 90 days prior to arrival. We strongly recommend travel & medical evacuation insurance from our partners at Global Rescue.

What gear should I bring to No Name Lodge?

For tarpon, bring a 10–12 wt rod with a tropical floating line (NNL recommends SA Grand Slam or Rio Flats Pro) and 40–60 lb fluorocarbon tippet — 100% fluoro required. Tarpon flies should be baitfish/minnow imitations in classic EP or Brush style, sizes 1/0–3/0, in black/purple, black/red, white, white/chartreuse, tan, or natural color mix.

For permit, a 8–10 wt rod (NNL recommends Hardy) with 15–20 lb fluorocarbon tippet. Permit flies in tan and olive, sizes 4–1/0 — your guide will assess your box on the water, and NNL guides carry their own flies on the boat. Puerto Rico permit are picky, and patterns change; trust your guide's read on the day.

Loaner rods and reels are available at no extra charge. A $250 repair/shipping fee applies if equipment is damaged. Stretch and clean your lines before the trip.

What's included in the price?

Five full days of guided fishing (2 anglers per boat, USCG-certified guide), 6 nights of double-occupancy lodging, grab-and-go breakfast, boat-side lunch, and nightly dinner logistics, beer and house rum (Medalla + local rum) throughout the week, terminal tackle (leader material and flies on the boat), loaner fly rods and lines, and WiFi.

Not included: flights to/from Puerto Rico, restaurant meals (~$50/dinner, ~$200/week), specialty alcohol, guide gratuity ($100–$150/day/boat), shuttle to and from San Juan Airport, and travel insurance.

What's not included?

Flights to/from Puerto Rico, restaurant meals during evenings out in Boquerón (budget ~$50/dinner, ~$200 for the week), specialty alcohol (beer and house rum are covered; hard liquor is BYOB), guide gratuity, and travel insurance (strongly recommended — NNL does not offer cash refunds).
