Overview

Located south of the sleepy lobster fishing village of Punta Herrero and right in the heart of the 1.3 million-acre Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, Beh Kay Lodge is uniquely situated to access the fertile waters of the Bahia del Espiritu Santo. The fishery centers on sight fishing for bonefish, permit, snook, and tarpon in shallow water, making it one of the top destinations in the world for a super grand slam! Fishing is accomplished mostly from specialized skiffs that silently float in inches of water, with wading opportunities as well. If you are a permit fiend, this the the fishery for you! If you are a first time flats angler, this is still a good destination to get your feet wet chasing a variety of species.

Frequently Asked Questions

What documentation do I need to travel?

A valid US passport is required to enter Mexico. No visa is required for US citizens. Note that Mexico limits a total of four rods allowed in your baggage when entering the country. Exceeding this may incur a tariff fee.

What happens in an emergency?

The closest medical facility is in Cancún, approximately 75 minutes by air. In emergency situations, a charter flight may be required. We strongly recommend purchasing medical evacuation coverage. We partner with Global Rescue for trip insurance and medical evac on all our hosted trips.

What is the tipping policy?

Gratuities are not included and should reflect your satisfaction. The lodge suggests $75-$100 per boat/per day for guides, and $50 per person/per day for the lodge staff. Envelopes are provided in your room to give to the lodge manager at the end of your stay. US Dollars are readily accepted.

What is the weather like and what clothing is recommended?

Temperatures range from the low 70s to mid 90s. Bring quick dry pants and shorts, long-sleeved UPF shirts, a wide-brimmed hat, sun gloves, a light hoody, and a light rain shell. Wet wading is the norm, so bring supportive, sturdy flats boots or zip-up neoprene booties. Don't forget polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and a Buff.

What fishing gear & flies should I bring?

As a Sage Experiences Outfitter, Beh Kay Lodge provides onsite access to premium Sage rods and RIO fly lines at no extra charge. If bringing your own: 9ft 7-8wt for bonefish, 9-10wt for permit/tarpon, and 11-12wt for adult tarpon. Bring tropical floating lines. Flies: Squimps (#4-6), light tan/cream crabs like Crab Rangoon, Raghead, Casa Blanca, Strong Arm, (#1-4) for permit. Tarpon Toads and Black Death for tarpon. Gotchas and Crazy Charlies for bonefish (#4-8).
