Truckee River Fly Fishing Report- Matt Heron 7/23

Jul 23, 20141 min read
The Truckee has been fishing very well this week using many of the normal summer ‘go-to’s’. Our guides are have been talking about streamer fishing slowing down some, but indicator set ups have been on point. We’re getting fish on golden stones and crays as our attractor fly, followed by size 16 PMD nymphs, and caddis droppers.
If you’re looking for the dry fly thing, evenings are you ticket. Carry a good assortment of stones, caddis, yellow sallies and PMDs.
As you might imagine it’s an early morning and evening game right now. Water temps are going up by the day and the talk of the town has been flows and summer conditions down the road. Please use common sense when fighting and lading fish, and go for a swim when temps get over 70.
Sawmill Lake-
Sawmill has been an outstanding private water fishery for us this summer. We’ve been getting fish in the shallows, mostly sight fishing. Beetles, ants and callibaetis dries have worked well, and slow stripping damsels and PTs have worked subsurface.
When the fish go deep later in the day, go low with an indicator rig and hold on!
