Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Arrow Thin Left Icon

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 8.19.2017

A little cooler weather and little more water. It’s rained almost every afternoon here lately.

Flows have been increased out of Lake Tahoe and the 2 month heat wave looks to have broken. Flows are near 600 cfs here in the Hirsch, and much cooler overnight lows. It’s usually about this time when we get our first freeze. Lows have been in the upper 30’s here a few nights this week. Needless to say, we’ve been doing pretty good. Lot’s of small fish and the occasional big. Remember, lower your expectations on this river please. If you hook fish here, you’re doing good, if you land them, you’re doing better.

So just kind of getting done with summer and the guiding every day thing. Looking forward to the fall fishing, mainly the streamer fishing and the daily trips to brown town. Looking forward to fishing the Nature Conservancy stuff again too. It will not be like the salad days, but I reckon we’ll get some good fish.

Still tons of crayfish, stones and stuff like that. The whole river is fishing very well. The Tight Line Clinic is full on on Sept 2’nd, so I may do another one on the 3’rd if I have enough interest. Still spots open for October 7th.

We should have a very good fall fishing season here on the Truckee River.
