Monterey Surf Fly Fishing Report

Summer weather is upon us! The water is looking awesome and the morning fog seems to be lingering well into the morning, just wish the fish were more hungry! It has been a tough bite this past week. Stripers and perch are being caught, but they sure are making us work for them. On Sunday I was out with avid surf fly fisherman Dennis from SF. We worked a good section of beach and picked apart most every hole and trench available for no love. A few bait guys landed some Stripers, but all in all a slow day for everyone. Monday I was joined by good buddy Bill from Truckee, convinced him to learn the two hand game, and he answered with a beauty barred surf perch. We did have to walk for it, but one fish can change the whole day.
Gotta love those Clouser eaters! The fish were spread out and we really needed to cover water in order to find them. When you have such good contour all along the beach you need to move around and find the holes the fish stopped in, this can really improve your odds.
Bill ventured out on his own the following day and proceeded to land a handful of perch, Walleye and Barred! Once again proving how one day can make a difference. Expecting good things for this summer season as we come into June. We still have dates available so give us a call to get on the books. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and be sure to thank a vet for the freedoms we all get to enjoy every day. We’ll see you on the beach!
