California Surf Fly Fishing Report

Ben Engle Reports on 11.13.19

The surf has been solid recently.  We are nearing the end of the season for pursuing stripers on our local beaches but I feel like until we get the next big rainstorm they will be around.  Make sure that you make the best of this time of year and get out while the stripers are still around!

We had a Surf Clinic on Crissy this last week and it was a beautiful morning out there.  Ended up getting one striper and a couple perch on the west end of the beach which made for some extremely happy clinic attendees.

This time of year I also start to switch up the gameplan a bit and start to throw some lighter weight rods for perch. In the winter months the perch will start moving in closer to the beach since the bar they feed on tends to be closer to the shore. Its a great opportunity to throw a 5wt or 6wt for some feisty 1-2 lb Redtails and Barred Surf Perch.  If you have any questions about lightweight setups for winter perch please don't hesitate to call us at LCO.
