California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Captain Bryce Tedford Reports on November 6th, 2025

California Delta Fishing Report:

The weather has been exceptional, but striper fishing has been a grind throughout Oct. Just had a storm come through so hoping more stripers push into the system soon. I would rate the fall fishing as mediocre or sub par so far. There are a few quality 5-10lb fish, but haven’t been seeing the fish numbers we are used to seeing this time of year.

That said, the persistent angler is generally getting around 10 fish with a few quality fish mixed in if they grind it out.

The weather has been beautiful out here, winds have been light & water temperatures are ideal for stripers at around 65 degrees. The gear and techniques we have been using are medium to heavy action 8-9 wt rods, heavy sinking type 6 shooting heads, such as a Rio Outbound short I/5/7 lines in 8 or 9wt to match rods. The fly selections we have been using are various Clousers, such as the Steve Adachi 3/0 Rattle Clousers in Chartreuse/white, Surf brown/white or Joker-black over Chartreuse.

Still waiting on fresh fish to come in from the Bay & into the Delta, fishing should really pick up over the next few weeks(fingers crossed)!

Striper tip of the month: “Cast, depth & strip is what it’s all about! Cast as far as needed in the given situation, let it sink down in the water column, strip hard & take some pauses. Also, strip hard through the bites & whacks until the fish is on, don’t trout set!”
