Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverMay 11, 20171 min read

Matt Koles reports on 5.11.17

Still big pumping flows on the Truckee River.

Flows have dropped a bit from last week, but the river is still above flood stage. About 4,500 cfs today in the Hirsch. Most of last week it was about 5,500 cfs. Minor flood stage is 4,000 cfs here. Highs were in the 70’s last week, snowing now as I write this.

I am catching fish. I have my zones, but for the casual angler, ain’t much happening right now. Flows are just way too big. The fish we are catching are big, healthy fish. Fish of a lifetime for most anglers.

Dirt snakes and streamers and shit they can see off of 1x is the deal. Get your flies in the zone. You will loose a lot of rigs.

Hang in there folks, won’t be long until the whole river opens up and it’s lights out.
