Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Apr 13, 20161 min read

Bucko Theriot Reports on 4.13.2016

The Upper Sacramento River this week is up from last week and is flowing at 2130 CFS. We received periods of heavy rain up here yesterday and suppose to get some more rain tonight. The river is a little more off color than last weeks report and the flows right now will make it a lot harder to wade. The Upper Sac is big right now, but still fishable if you find the right spots. These flows can be dangerous and wouldn’t recommend fishing at these flows, unless with someone experienced on this river. If you are heading up to the north state this weekend, I would focus mainly on trying to get out and fish the Lower Sac, it is probably the best river in CA right now.

What to look forward to on the Upper Sac: The Salmonfly hatch in May & the Golden Stones which overlaps the Salmonfly hatch in late May early June.
