Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverJun 21, 20181 min read

Matt Koles reports on 6.21.18

Good solid fishing here on the Truckee River.

Super nice weather and really good fish’n. Flows are great and the bugs are out. June is always a good month when we have normal flows. We got lucky and and had some rain and we saw some serious green drake action. Just have to be on the river at the right time and get lucky. Nymph during the day, and dry fly fish in the evening.

All the bugs are out, caddis is the main thing though. We have this little window when we have drakes, and goldens, and pmds and things, but caddis will get fish day in and day out on the Truckee River. They key in on the pupa during the day. The LT is not so much a caddis game. Mainly mayflies out there.

The whole river is in great shape. The Nevada side has been really good too. It looks like it’s going to start warming up this week. Mornings will be your best time to fish and again in the evenings. The fishing will slow down on those hot afternoons.

The nymph clinic is sold out for the 23rd. I will have one more on July 28. Please call if you’re interested.
