Truckee River and Pyramid Fly Fishing Report
The Pyramid Lake opener was this last weekend.Big winds for this years opener put a wrench in our fishing. Normally some wind is good for Pyramid Lake but not when your out on your tubes, or in a boat trying to target the fishing in the deeper water. Still fish were caught, but it wasn’t as good as the last few openers for the majority of anglers. Sure, some shore guys caught some stranglers cruising through, but the fish are still out farther. This week should be good if your out on a boat or tube. The fish should push in closer to the beaches when the water temps get lower. Usually that is around Halloween week, maybe sooner.
Look some switch rod clinics I’ll be putting on at the lake posted here shortly.
The Truckee River has been fishing very good thanks in part to cool fall temperatures and a spike in flows out of Prosser last week. Things were getting pretty boney on the river, but flows ain’t that bad right now. Fishing in the lower flows is a lot easier on people as you can wade and cross the river is most spots. Been doing a lot of tight line nymphing, and dry dropper set ups. Fall trout like to eat streamers too. With the lower flows look for some good beatis hatches this month and some heads poking up especially if we get inclement weather. We’ve caught some exceptionally large trout the last few weeks.
