Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Deschutes RiverJul 14, 20161 min read

Cory Godell Reports on 7.14.2016

Deschutes River

There are already some steel poking their heads into the Deschutes. There has already been a few caught up as far as Macks Canyon. But the bulk of them are still on there way so it’s still a touch early to put the trout rods away and switch to steelhead. The steelhead fishing doesn’t fully ramp up until mid august, but that’s just a few weeks away. Once they are here we will target them right on through the end of the year.

Trout

If you’re not a steelhead guy, there is still plenty of great trout fishing to be had on the Deschutes. Our trout season is going strong and will continue to do so right on through October.

Owyhee (round two)

Timing is everything and that time is now. Our second round of big bugs is just about to start up. Every year our first major hatch on the Owyhee is the Skwala hatch which starts in March and goes through a chunk of April. After that for a couple months we fish some smaller caddis and mayflies. But now it’s time to start fishing big dries again. So if you want to be on the front edge of our terrestrial season, it’s time to head for the Owyhee. Go time starts in August.
