Deschutes Fly Fishing Report

Deschutes RiverJan 28, 20191 min read

Cory Godell reports on 1.28.19

If you are more of a fair weather angler and prefer nice weather or are willing to hit the water regardless of the weather, this is going to be an amazing weekend to be on the water. The weather is predicted to be sunny and in the 50’s all around Central Oregon. I took advantage of this great weather and went to the river yesterday. Even though it’s January, it’s not all nymphing this time of year. I fished dry dropper for the bulk of the morning and that worked plenty good. Then around 12:30 the Blue Winged Olives started to show and the fish started to rise. Warm weather not only gets us up and moving, but it also get the bugs and fish more active when it warms the water temps up a few degrees. Fishing should be good for the next several days. If this mildwinter is any indication of the way the spring is going to be, the Salmon Fly Hatch will probably show up a bit earlier than normal. For anyone interested we have a few spots left for our Deschutes camp trips during the amazing Salmon Fly Hatch.
