Baum Lake Fly Fishing Report
The Northern California Guide Reports on 2.16.2017
This past month it’s been hard to find a place to fish but one location that has been steadily fishing well is Baum Lake. Michelle and I ran up there on Sunday for a few hours in the afternoon and the fishing was stellar. The fish were willing to eat with different techniques such as dry flies, intermediate sinking line and strike indicator rigs.
Dry Flies
- Small May Fly
- 18 Parachute Adams
- Other beatis patterns worked well on the surface
Intermediate Sinking Line
- Small Soft Hackle
- Olive Wooly Bugger
- We really didn’t need to throw these but it was fun to mix it up
Strike Indicator Rigs
- Note - Small Indicator
- Zebra Midge – 18 PT
Overall it was a great way to spend the day. We caught many trout in the 10-15 inch range. We fought some bigger fish but they ran into the weeds and were lost. This is an all-around great way to spend time on the water getting into rainbows and browns.
