Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing

The Upper Sacramento River
I have had the opportunity to winter fish the Upper Sacramento River since it opened to year round fishing a few years ago. She can be a tempermental thing with a lot of pulse flows but when we have these drier years such as now the fishing on it can be extremely good, particularly for those elusive big fish that you always hear of but for some reason don’t see. The prime time is midday, forget the frigid mornings and that evening bite thing. You do not have to wait for Spring, I would love to introduce you to this winter gem, give me a shout, 877-934-7466.
Half days recommended …. $400 for 1 or 2 anglers. Timeframe is usually from 11am-4pm.

A word about the fish we will catch…
Forget those dinks that seem to be the main course for most of you during the regular season, we are talking about the big Rainbows that are both residents and lake runs. They remain active all winter getting ready for their spawning thing in February - April. Personally I recommend for nymphing a 5-7 wt. rod with 3x and 4x tippet, these guys are not leader shy! Swinging is also a tried and proven technique so consider that switch rod or double hander. Think steelhead fishing (almost) on a very user friendly river. This river can be your gateway to the big fish game.
River Flows
There is a window ….. generally below 1000cfs
