Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

May 1, 20191 min read

Matt Koles reports on 5.1.19

Good solid fishing on the Truckee River.

Big pumping flows and good solid fishing. Super good actually. I’m not blowing smoke up your ass. If you understand how to fish at these flows, you will get rewarded like all these folks.

If you’re not good at the high flows, take this class. You’ll probably come up here, loose a rig on about every cast and go home.

So nymph up in the slow water, pull streamers along the bank. You have to get your shit down into where the fish are. You will be fishing where we are usually standing in lower water. You will get caught up on all sorts of bushes and things along the bottom. Just the way it is. Bring some good strong tippet.

I feel we have the best fishing in the state right now. Why, because we have big brown trout and this is a good time to hook one. This river is fully recovered from the drought, and now it’s her turn to shine.
