Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report
John Fochetti reports on 4.20.17
Fishing has been really good one day and sucked the next.
The weather does not seem to be making that much of a difference. One
thing I can say for sure is that it’s crazy crowded out there. Most
people are fishing just a few spots. My advice would be to try a beach
that doesn’t have 100 anglers on it. You will have a better chance of
catching that 20 plus pounder if there are only a few rods on the beach.
Nymphing
with midges in sizes 8-12 has been the most effective. Color seems to
change on a daily basis. Some days red, others are black, and some days
brown. Experiment with your colors including the bead. the colors have
been making a difference lately.
Another
thing to mess around with is your depth, the lake has come up a good
5-6 feet in the past few months. So places you were fishing at 6 feet
deep you may need to try a bit deeper. Moving over ten feet to your left
can make a huge difference.
If you get bored
nymphing or it isn’t working, try stripping some buggers and beetles.
The old standards are working just fine; midnight cowboy wooly worms and
popcorn beetles.
