Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report
Doug Ouellette Reports on 10.6.2016
Pyramid Lake Opener
Water temperatures cooling down with storms - Surface 68°, 10ft. 66°, 20ft. 64°
Opening week at Pyramid Lake produced many smaller cutthroat trout ranging from 17in to 25in. Both strains of cutts, the Pilot Peak and the Pyramid strain were grabbing readily. Fish were caught at all available beaches from the very north to the very south. The fish are keying in on the tui chub bait balls. Locate these for these bait balls and you will find trout.
Productive patterns are Clouser Minnows, Stanley Streamers and Popcorn Beetles. Wade fishing, float tubes and boats all were effective.
8 weight shooting head style lines at 350 grains is best. Lodging is available at Crosby Lodge on the lake.
