Madison River Fly Fishing Report
Nicholas A. Peterson, NorthShore of the Madison
With the weather working out for us and it feeling more like September than December here fishing is still on fire! We’ve been able to pick up nice trout on dry flys, hoppers and ants, and dragging bunny fur as brought us some trophy Montana trout. With flows on the Madison at a steady average 1300 cfs we are looking at a great fall for fly fishing on the Madison.
Lighter colored streamers are the name of the game lately. The big ones are chasing a different variety of bugs as long as they are lighter colored, white and/or tan, has worked best the last few days. They big browns are fattening for the fall run and winter is always lingering not to far behind fall up here in the mountains. So get out there before it is to cold to fish!
