Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report
Hogan Brown reports on 12.30.2015
Lower Sacramento River - I have been on the upper stretches of the Lower
Sac a few days this last week between Bonnie View and Anderson. Crowds
are nonexistent as the few guides that are on the river are up from
Possie to Bonnie. The River is really low around 3500cfs and releases
will not come up I imagine as long as Shasta is so low. Trout fishing is
fair to good depending on the day and conditions. Overall it is pretty
typical winter trout fishing on the Sac with good fishing during the
warmest part of the day and then mediocre fishing in the morning and
late afternoon. Fish are eating a variety of bugs but the most
consistent is smaller PT style flies imitating mayflies.
Butte
Creek - I got out and did some exploring and flows have crashed down to
about 130cfs and clarity is gin clear…not great conditions. Fished a
few runs down lower in the canyon and didn’t find any fish. I think the
fish that pushed up with the rain are up higher in the system and
getting up in the canyon is key to find fish.
