Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report
Anthony Carruesco reports on 8.2.18
Fortunately for those who live in the Redding area, the Carr fire has moved away from town. Although it remains smokey most days, the river conditions are excellent and the fishing is good. We’ve had a lot of questions recently about river conditions from the fire. To clear this up: the river was not impacted at all from the fires. Yes, it was devastating to some of the developed areas around town but the river has not been compromised at all. The fish are as healthy and happy as can be.
We are expecting a strong push of salmon this year into the Redding area. A lot of fish are already making their way up and being seen and caught in Chico and even Anderson. This is great news for the trout in the Lower Sac and strong signs that we will have a good egg drop this year. When we have a lot of spawning salmon in town, the trout fishing can be absolute Richter. Mid-September through November can be the prime “egg bite” window
