This is a strong and beefy 11/12/13 wt reel in every respect. Frame and spool are thick and strong, so while the weight isn't as light as some competitors, it won't be easily bent or subject to spool deflection. Man-size handle and drag knob are very ergonomic. Sealed drag is super smooth with no start-up resistance. Drag knob tightens from zero to lockdown in fewer than two rotations. Silent crank-in, moderate click sound out (not as loud as Tibor, but louder than Ross Salt R, so your guide will be able to hear it). Holds a generous 450 yards of backing with ample room for thick big game fly lines like Rio GT. Might be overkill for tarpon, but a super solid reel for powerful pelagics and giant trevally. The only thing I might change would be to narrow the spool width a bit and increase the reel diameter to 4 3/4", similar dimensions to the much older Bauer M7. Lastly, I'll put in a plug for the Bauer service techs at Winston Rods in Montana who serviced my older cork drag Bauer reels. Those guys know their stuff and are great to work with!
